Michele Eberle (HD 37) Endorsed by Sierra Club
Bruun Cast too Many Anti-Environment Votes
Democratic candidate Michele Eberle has been endorsed by the Sierra Club of Oregon as the campaign for House District 37 enters its final stages.
In joining US Sen. Ron Wyden, former Governor Barbara Roberts, Attorney General candidate John Kroger, Milwaukie Mayor Jim Bernard, West Linn Mayor Norm King and Planned Parenthood of Oregon in endorsing Eberle, the Sierra Club pointed to clear differences on key environmental issues between Eberle and her Republican opponent Scott Bruun.
“When we look at land use, transportation and building our state’s renewable energy options, Michele Eberle stands out as the clear choice in this race. Anyone who cares about keeping Oregon green and our environment healthy should choose Eberle in District 37,” said Sierra Club’s Ivan Maluski.
Bruun joined with other anti-environment House Republicans on several keys votes last session.
* Bruun voted against both SB 107 and HB 5023, legislation that would have protected our air and water quality by requiring polluters to pay their fair share of the cost of enforcing air and water quality laws.
* Bruun voted against HB 3540, the legislative referral overwhelmingly passed by voters as Measure 49, replacing a disastrous land use initiative that would have allowed unchecked development outside urban growth boundaries, damaging Oregon’s forests and farmland.
* Bruun supported HB 2975, which would have tossed out existing management plans for the Tillamook State Forest and allowed for unsustainable increases in logging on state lands at the expense of recreation and water quality.
Eberle said the Sierra Club endorsement was another example how she can work with all sides to find real solutions to Oregon’s problems.
“Oregonians are ready for effective leadership from people who tackle problems with common sense and a commitment to our future,” said Eberle, a West Linn City Councilor. “We’ve made tremendous strides in West Linn by making sure our council works together. That’s the style I will take as your State Representative to Salem and I am proud to add the Sierra Club to our growing list of endorsements.”
